Counseling Services for Anxiety
Some people have struggled for years, unaware that they were experiencing clinical anxiety.
A little anxiety is good - it is a survival mechanism, and since we aren't usually chased by tigers, it helps us focus and respond well during situations like a test or on the job. However, extreme brief stress or moderate stress for a long period of time can weigh on our mental and physical health. What's more, just like adults, children can suffer from anxiety conditions. In the Latino culture, we might label it as 'nervios'.
We provide psychotherapies supported by research to be effective for anxiety disorders, including:
-
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
-
Solution-Focused Therapy
-
Play therapy and Family therapy for children
Anxiety is more than just feeling nervous or worried once in a while. It can evolve into a serious condition that can be caused by any of the following:
-
biology or genetics - inherited from your parents
-
environmental circumstances
-
psychology or temperament
Your therapist will start by gathering background information about you and the reason you are seeking treatment. This information helps your therapist understand your unique circumstances, establish a diagnosis, and set goals for therapy. One of the most well-known diagnoses for anxiety symptoms is Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD). But, there are other anxiety conditions aside from OCD, including Panic Disorder, Generalized Anxiety Disorder, and phobias just to name a few. The diagnosis is important as it provides a snapshot of what your symptoms are and guides treatment.
