Counseling For Trauma
Counseling Services for Trauma
Trauma symptoms are very treatable, and we provide several treatments supported by research to be highly effective, including:
-
EMDR (Eye-Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing)
-
CPT (Cognitive Processing Therapy)
-
PE (Prolonged Exposure)
-
CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy).
Trauma can occur as a result of any of these:
-
experiencing any type of harm (or threat of harm) to you
-
witnessing harm to someone else
-
learning harm has occured to someone close to you
Your therapist will start by gathering background information about you and the reason you are seeking treatment. This information helps your therapist understand your unique circumstances, establish a diagnosis, and set goals for therapy. One of the most well-known diagnoses for trauma symptoms is Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). But, there are other diagnoses that can result from a traumatic event beside PTSD, including Unspecified Trauma- and Stressor-Related Disorder, Major Depressive Disorder, and Generalized Anxiety Disorder. The diagnosis is important as it provides a snapshot of what your symptoms are and guides treatment.
Signs of Trauma
Nightmares
unwanted and disturbing memories
Intense emotional reactions
Intense physical reactions
Avoiding reminders of the traumatic event
Loss of interest in activities
feeling distant from others
negative beliefs / expectations about yourself or others
blaming yourself for what happened

We have a strong belief in the power of human connection, and the amazing RESILIENCY that is an integral part of our being.
Our foundation is a trusting and genuine relationship, and we always aim to treat our clients with respect and compassion. We establish goals for therapy together and adjust them as needed. We also agree on a timeline for therapy. Services can be conducted in the form of individual, couple and family sessions, as needed. All sessions are confidential, and any limits to confidentiality are discussed in the first session.
We are based in Harlingen but work across McAllen, Brownsville, Laredo and Corpus Christi. Since we can schedule online appointments for our professional counseling services we are available throughout Texas.
